My Basis and Background
I have been painting for as long as I can remember, exploring various mediums like abstract art on canvas in oils and multimedia, pen and ink on paper, acrylic on silk, and more. My artistic journey has even led me to create figurative paintings on wood and glass, and I’ve had the unique experience of blending lyrical forms on a ballet body!
Trained as a painter at the Delhi School of Art, I have showcased my work in 35 art exhibitions, with a focus on solo shows, along with a few group exhibitions at important art festivals and events, representing contemporary art as a solo national representative across several countries.
My research work with the Devnagri (Hindi) script in the realm of Concrete Poetry is now permanently housed in International Archives, Germany.
In my art, I seek to invite viewers to connect to my paintings through their own experiences. The impact of life, with its myriad forms, inspires me deeply. Certain moments resonate with me profoundly, driving me to express them on canvas with my brush.
I am particularly drawn to painting extensively with calligraphy, using words from revered Sufi saints like Kabir, Rumi, Bulleh Shah, and Hazrat Shah Niaz, and my interpretations are uniquely my own.
Each piece I create has a specific moment of association and raison d'être. I paint to express my inner self and my space while inviting my audience to engage similarly. I encourage viewers to see beyond the surface; the painting of a tree embodies more than just bark and leaves, and the sea represents more than a body of water. Perhaps they will uncover the lushness within the tree or the depth of words within the waves. This experience may not align with the moment I envisioned when painting, but rather, it may be their own revelation—maybe there is a subliminal connect.
My Profile
Geeta Vadhera has held 36 solo exhibitions of her paintings across Europe, Australia, South East Asia, and India, showcasing her prowess in both abstract art and figurative paintings. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Fine Art from the Delhi College of Art, complemented by advanced studies in Photography from Lycee Technique Estienee in Paris. Additionally, she has trained in Indian Classical Vocal Music at Gandharva in Allahabad and earned a Certificate in Visual Communication from IIT, Bombay. Her research in Concrete Poetry is preserved in the International Archives in Selb, Germany. Geeta Vadhera also runs her own art gallery, Studio Geeta Vadhera, located in Gurgaon. She is a member of the India International Center and has undertaken design assignments for prestigious brands such as Christian Dior in Paris and Treasey Loewe in London. As the Chief Designer and Fashion Coordinator for the Export Division of Central Cottage Industries Corporation in New Delhi, she creatively contributed to various art exhibitions. Notably, she produced a curtain raiser audio-visual presentation for former Prime Minister Mr. Rajiv Gandhi and served as a TV producer for Doordarshan India, creating a weekly Arts Diary, as well as radio programs for All India Radio and BBC External Services, New Delhi. Geeta Vadhera has released a book titled "Ansh", an anthology of poems derived from her research on Concrete Poetry, alongside a series of five books called "An Introduction to Art," designed specifically for children. For her significant contributions to contemporary art, she was awarded the Bharat Nirman Award in New Delhi. Her exhibitions outside India include "Rik", based on the Rig Veda at Jacques Place in Turin, and various showcases in galleries such as Galerie Anne Marie Rey in Nice and La Finestrella Galerie d'Arte in Canelli, Italy. In Singapore, her works titled "Sarvam" featured themes from the Bhagwad Geeta, supported by a visual presentation and jazz ballet by Karen Clarke. Her art exhibitions also explored the essence of womanhood through her show "The She Shadow". Within India, her exhibition "Ansh" focused on Concrete Poetry and was hosted at AIFACS in New Delhi, along with various displays at prominent venues including the Museum of Fine Arts in Chandigarh and Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi. Through her diverse showcasing of abstract art, contemporary art, and figurative paintings, Geeta Vadhera continues to make a remarkable impact in the field of art.
